Herman Earl Hicks

Herman E. Hicks Herman Earl Hicks, a long time resident of Willow Springs, quietly passed away Tuesday evening while at Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool from natural causes. Born April 17, 1929 in Richville, MO to Sidney and Ruth (Smith) Hicks, he was 86 years old. Herman was self employed most of his life as a logger and timber worker. It was said he had logged over much of the country here in the Ozarks, and because of that, he was well known throughout the communities and had made numerous friends along the way. He was described by his family as a good Christian man who actually lived by the Christian principles in which he was taught. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandpa. After the passing of his first wife, Wilma, he later married Lorene Johnson on December 20, 1971 in Vanzant, MO. He had many enjoyments in life which included fishing and hunting. He was also considered quite the jokester, and it wasn't beyond him to pull a prank or two when you weren't looking; however, he especially loved all his family and being able to spend time with them. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those who knew him. Herman was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Wilma Jane (Collins) Hicks; his brother Bentley and his wife, Opal Hicks; his sister, Joyce and her husband, Leroy Lovan; mother-in-law, Nancy Johnson; and step grandson, Jeremy Nye. He is survived by his loving wife, Lorene Hicks of Willow Springs; his son, Tom E. Hicks and his wife Pauline; his daughters, Carol Weaver and her husband Delford, Debra Nye and her husband Jake, and Brenda Harrison and her husband Russ all of Willow Springs. He is further survived by his sisters, Eunice Owens and her husband Charles, and Christine McDaniel and her husband Gene all of Willow Springs. Five grandchildren, Christie Lee, Laurie Strosnider and her husband Roger, Jared Hicks and his wife Angie, Amanda Wheeler and her husband Zach, and Jessica Metty and her husband Lyndel, and thirteen great grandchildren also survive. A funeral service will be held for Mr. Hicks on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 2:00pm at the Westside Family Life Center located at 1274 Co Rd 5270 in Willow Springs with Pastor David Lovan and Danny Hicks officiating. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 1:00pm – 2:00pm. Burial will follow at the Vanzant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Herman’s name to help defray funeral expenses and can be left at Landmark Bank in Willow Springs. Arrangements are under the direction of Willow Funeral Home.
