Mr. Douglas Bruce Barber

November 12, 1956 - April 22, 2017

Douglas Bruce Barber, a resident of Willow Springs, passed away early Saturday morning, April 22, 2017, while at Willow Care Nursing Home in Willow Springs due to natural causes. Born on November 12, 1956 to James and Louise (Turner) Barber in Miami , Florida ; he was 60 years old. Douglas was a truck driver and over the years was employed by several different trucking firms, until he became disabled and was forced to retire. Douglas enjoyed life, and he especially loved spending time with his many friends. It was said that he always treated others with respect and kindness and that he liked to cut up and have fun. He took pity on anyone who needed a place to stay, and never turned anyone away. He also loved animals and couldn't bear to see them mistreated in any way. His many hobbies included horseback riding, riding four-wheelers, racing dirt bikes, boating, and water skiing. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jesse and James Barber, Jr. Douglas is survived by his wife, Cheryle of Lehigh Acres, FL; a son, Douglas, Jr. of Zolfo Springs, FL; a step-daughter, Samantha A. Donahue of LeHigh Acres, Fl; a step-son, Shawn L. Donahue and his wife, Colleen of Sorrento, FL; a brother, Melvin Barber and his wife, Charlotte of Zephyr Hills, FL; sisters, Ruth Reezes and her husband, Bob of Okeechobee, FL; Brenda Stevens of Ozark, MO; and Carol Dickey and her husband, George of Wauchula, FL. He is further survived by his step-grandchildren, Albert and Thomas Mendez, Denito and Giovanni Gonzales of Lehigh Acres, FL and Cillian Donahue of Sorrento, FL. A memorial service for Mr. Barber will be held at Willow Funeral Home at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Willow Funeral Home.
